HOW TO STAY YOUNG

1. Throw out nonessential numbers.  This includes age, weight and height.  Let the doctors worry about them.  That is why you pay 'them'

2.
Keep only cheerful friends.  The grouches pull you down.

3.
Keep learning.  Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever.  Never let  the brain idle.  'An idle mind' is the devil's workshop.'

4.
Enjoy the simple things.

5.
Laugh often, long and loud.  Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6.
The tears happen.  Endure, grieve, and move on.  The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves.  Be  ALIVE  while you are alive.

7.
Surround yourself with what you love , whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever..  Your home is your refuge.

8.
Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it.  If it is unstable, improve it.  If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9.
Don't take guilt trips.  Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

10.
Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER
:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but  by the moments that take our breath away.

And if you don't send this to at least 8 people - who cares?  But do share this with someone.  We all need to live life to its fullest each day!!

Worry about nothing, pray about everything!!

Exergames

Physicians from the University of California, San Diego believe that “exergames” – video games that combine game play with physical exercise, such as the Nintendo Wii – can improve symptoms of minor depression in seniors. Depression that is not yet classified as “major depression” is very common in seniors and can be associated with substantial suffering, functional disability, and increased use of costly medical services. In an exergames study published in the March 2010 issue of The American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, researchers found that “More than one-third of the participants had a 50-percent or greater reduction of depressive symptoms. Many had a significant improvement in their mental health-related quality of life and increased cognitive stimulation.” Although this study was very small, it demonstrates a potentially cost-effective way of reducing morbidity among senior citizens and, indeed, many nursing homes around the country are already employing exergames in physical therapy. Top 10 Health Tips for 2010

A little over a month into 2010 many of the resolutions that you made in January probably has fallen by the wayside. When the ball dropped on New Year’s Eve you might have resolved to go to the gym more often or to eat less fast food on, now, in February those promises seem as stale as the fruit cake in the back of your refrigerator. You might be feeling that you still want to change a few things this year but your earlier resolutions didn’t work out; below you will find 10 tips to bring a positive change to your life in 2010:

1.)  Make room for mini meditations throughout your day, close the door at your office, hold your calls, and just relax for five minutes. Hubert Benson, the co-founder of Harvard’s Benson-Henry Institute for Mind/Body Medicine, recommends doing this a few times throughout the day. It allows you to turn everything off and recharge.

2.)  With states increasing cigarette taxes and cities banning smoking in bars and restaurants there has never been a better time to quit smoking. Many employers, faith groups, and even some local governments offer resources to help you stop smoking for good.

3.)  Make an effort to have a social life.  Getting bogged down in the stresses of daily life is easy to do. Make a promise to yourself to hang out with your friends at least once a week.

4.)  Be aware of your health. Get a physical this year, even if you had one last year you need to make it an annual event. Being proactive is the best way to maintain a healthy life.

5.)  Stay positive. It sounds simple, but if you try and keep a positive outlook on life you will find that you enjoy your work, family, and life in general a lot more.

6.)  Cut the calories back. This year instead of trying the next fad diet resolve to simply cut back your calorie intake.

7.)  Exercise daily. That doesn’t mean become a gym rat it means incorporate some kind of physical activity into your daily routine. It could be something as simple as going for a walk through the park every day, or going for daily bike rides.

8.)  Make “wellness” a verb. Don’t think of health and wellness as something to reach for, or something to achieve. Think of as the way you live your life.

9.)  Cut back the caffeine. Instead of drinking a pot of regular coffee every morning switch to a 50/50 coffee or caffeine free soft drinks.

10.)  Add a little “green” to your life. Mom really was right growing up, be sure to add fruits and vegetables to your meals every day.

These changes, for the most part, are easy to work into your daily life and maintain all year long.

~ SEEDS ~

Each moment as you move through this world, you are planting seeds. Those seeds are your thoughts. Once planted, they take root and grow into a forest of reality which surrounds you. So how is your forest growing?

Is it filled with beautiful, productive flora, growing from a steady stream of positive thought seeds? Or is it filled with gnarled, thorny, tangled vines which hold you back in every direction?

The trees that grow depend upon the seeds that are planted. Though each thought is a small, seemingly insignificant thing, once it has passed through your mind it begins to grow into something real and substantial.

Each thought combines with the other thoughts that came before it, and the thoughts that come after it, to set the direction of your reality. Even the most secret, hidden thoughts eventually become obvious because of the direction they give to your life.

You can decide how to direct your mind, and by so doing you can profoundly affect the reality of your life. Plant row after row of positive, empowering thought seeds, and they'll grow into a rich and magnificent forest of value and accomplishment.
